BREAKING: Three Federal Buildings ID'ed for "Disposal" (UPDATED)
A wide collection of buildings have been identified as non-core, dramatically impacting millions of sqft of space
We don’t need to remind you of the butchering of the federal government and its essential services that is happening seemingly every day. With these cuts, the places where these organizations were housed were most definitely being eyed as the next to go. And today, after seeing an informative post, we now know that three buildings within the City limits making up just under 1.4 million sqft are on the list of “non-core” properties “designated for disposal,” seemingly meaning sales could be imminent.

These buildings are all huge, with a sale likely attracting a wide array of potential buyers that could have any number of ideas of what the future might hold for each of these structures. Some federal buildings - most notably the massive IRS building just next to 30th Street Station and the newly refurbished William J. Green Federal building on Independence Mall - will remain as is, seemingly. However, we are honestly a bit shell-shocked at this new realization, and we’re sure we’ll hear much more about this in the near future. It goes to show you, what happens at the national level very much impacts Philly, its residents, and its built environment - in a very real and tangible way that goes far beyond egg prices.
Awful, awful job by Elon, Donald, and everyone else involved in decimating the city where this entire fucking country began.
UPDATE (3:35 PM, 3/4/2025): We initially identified the Veterans hospital building as one to be disposed of, it’s actually the Veterans’ Affairs Administration building at 5000 Wissahickon Ave.; this has since been corrected.
UPDATE (9:10 AM, 3/5/2025): After reporting the Green building was part of the list to dispose, it turns out FEDERAL BUILDING 05 was part of the building at 5000 Wissahickon - a wildly efficient way of being clear, right? We also decided to visit the U.S. Custom House last night, which is now included here.
It's not "America First". It's "America Alone".
The customs house. Wow.
